Abstract

Occupational fatigue is an important occupational health concern that may reduce workers’ performance and increase the risk of workplace accidents. This study aimed to analyze the associations between physical workplace factors and occupational fatigue among bakery workers in Indonesia. This quantitative analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted at a bakery factory CV “X” in Kampar Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia, in 2019. A total of 55 workers were recruited using total sampling. Workplace illumination, noise, temperature, and vibration were measured using environmental monitoring instruments, whereas occupational fatigue was assessed using the Work Fatigue Feeling Measurement Questionnaire (KAUPK2). Data were analyzed using chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression. Of the 55 workers, 38 (69.09%) experienced occupational fatigue. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between fatigue and illumination (p = 0.004), noise (p = 0.001), and vibration (p = 0.006), whereas temperature was not significantly associated with fatigue (p = 0.170). In the multivariable analysis, illumination (POR = 0.124, 95% CI: 0.021–0.726; p = 0.021) and noise (POR = 8.381, 95% CI: 1.093–64.256; p = 0.041) remained significantly associated with occupational fatigue. Occupational fatigue was prevalent among bakery workers and was associated with workplace illumination and noise. Improving workplace lighting and controlling noise exposure should be considered in occupational health and safety programs.
